Supposedly Phlox is a genus of 67 species of perennial and annual plants in the family Polemoniacea that are mainly found in North America.
PHLOX
are a new flower-powerviolence punk band from Columbus, Ohio featuring members of Slant 6 (bassist/vocalist Myra Power), Ouija Boys (guitarist/vocalist Ian Graham) and Drunks With Guns (drummer Mike Doskocil aka Malcom Bliss).
So what the hell's flower-powerviolence? On the evidence provided by Phlox's 4 song Demo it's a mash up of hardcore punk, noise rock, fuzzed up psychedelia and feedback. Am I right in guessing it's named after the song Raging, Hate, Fear And Flower Power Violence by Californian band Spazz? I've no idea to be honest but I do know the Demo came out earlier this month and you can snap it up name your price here : https://phloxxx.bandcamp.com/releases
This is the lead track, it sounds like a reverb heavy theme to a Charles Manson documentary where madness and warped minds are under discussion as saturated colours splash across images of cult members telling the world why they committed their evil crimes. It's trippy, it's mood music and whilst flowers might be the order of the day, even the flower on the cover looks a thing of forlorn sadness.
