Obviously that Madhouse is not the Jazz Fusion band Prince created in ’87. It also isn’t the female-fronted Italian band Madhouse. This version of Madhouse hails from Austria–not Australia, Austria, if you really are still drunk from yesterday. It’s a band whose drummer is named Ken while the lead guitarist is named Stixx. Don’t ask. I don’t know why either. What I do know, is that Madhouse is pure 80s Melodic Hard Rock in a modern band. They’ve got licks and hooks like old Motley Crue, sleazy lyrics like the best of Danger Danger, and tons of gang vocals, melodies, and attitude. “Hard and Heavy” is off their 2019 debut album on Mars Music Productions. The album is called “Money Talks, Bullshit Walks.” Pick it up. You won’t be sorry.

Later in the show I play for you a Hard Rock, Metal, or Glam cover song followed by the original recording from any genre. But I don’t tell you what cover I’m going to play until right before it spins. Leading up to it, I give you overt clues and subtle hints, while you try to solve the mystery and beat me to the reveal. It’s time for your first clue.

Your first Cover Song of the Week is always the hardest, the one for hardcore Music fans who know all the little details and have read all the liner notes. After this one, the clues get progressively easier.

The Cover Song of the Week was released in 2019 on the final album by a 5-piece Metal band from Ohio and West Virginia. The lead singer left to spend more time with his family while the remaining four members morphed into this next band, The Lonely Ones. This is “Eternal Sadness” on Hard, Heavy & Hair. Listen for a guitar solo and the experimental changeup at the end of the song.

Ready for something new? This next new song… There are a lot of strange Rock band names in the world, and then there’s this next band’s name. If you see the band’s name printed, you’d probably read it as Girish and the Chronicles. And you’d think, A) that’s a weird name for a Metal and Melodic Hard Rock band, and, B) it’s gotta be a female-fronted group. Both would be kind of wrong. You see, Girish is an Indian boy’s name, and it’s the first name of vocalist and namesake Girish Pradhan. From the state of Sikkim in India, this is GATC, Girish and the Chronicles, with the new single “Rock N’ Roll is Here to Stay”.

The Cover Song of the Week original is by a Psychedelic Rock band formed in London in 1965. It’s a band that came from the dark side of the moon but were so influential, with two of the best-selling albums of all time–numbers 4 and 30 on the list of the best-selling albums of all time of any genre. You could say they were a brick in the wall of the history of Rock N’ Roll.

Speaking of the best-selling albums of all time, this next song is the title track the second best-selling album. AC/DC’s Back in Black has only been outsold by one album. I’m sure you know that would be Michael Jackson’s Thriller. With more than 47 million certified album sales, I don’t know if anyone will ever break its hold on the number 1 slot. With 30 million certified album sales, this is the title track to AC/DC’s Back in Black.

We need bands like the Hu–H-U–singing about brotherhood, community, and having each other’s back. We’re all waging battles, fighting off lions. Sometimes that can get overwhelming, especially if you don’t have time to breathe between the waves of lions, demons, and hellfire coming down on your. It helps to know you’re not the only one, that we’re all in this together. We’ve all been lost. We’ve all been cold. We’ve all been low. The songwriter, Roger Waters, told Mojo magazine in 2009 that, quote, “the song is partly an attempt to make connections with other people, to say that maybe if we act in consort, some of the bad feelings will go away. In community, there is comfort. The line, ‘Hey you, out there beyond the wall/ Breaking bottles in the hall’- that is an exhortation to come closer where I live, so we can help each other.”

I’ve been dropping hints and clues throughout the show. First, I played the new song “Eternal Sadness” from the Lonely Ones, which is the four-piece band Bobaflex morphed into after the departure of Beaver McCoy.

On Bobaflex’s final album, 2019’s Eloquent Demons, is an amazing cover of a song originally by a band with two records in the Top 30 best-selling albums of all time, including, at number four on that list, the Wall. That Psychedelic Rock band could only be Pink Floyd.

And the song Bobaflex is covering? The song that, in part, is about people coming together to help each other out? I’ve been alluding to that song throughout the entire show, starting with “Everybody’s High But Me” by Devilskin, The Hu’s “Wolf Totem,” and Whitesnake’s “Hey You,” among other hints…? Well, that song is “Hey You” from Pink Floyd.
