How about we step back from Bill & Ted for a minute–
[Bill & Teds 1 – Bogus]–and let’s listen to something brand new.
With the baddest 17 year-old chick you’re ever likely to encounter on vocals and bass, and 11 year-old brother on keyboards,
[Bill & Teds 1 – Whoa]this is 5-piece Heavy Metal family band Lilliac with their newest, “Crazy Nights.”
—————————————-
Liliac – Crazy Nights
—————————————-
Not bad indeed, dudes! And that’s the first part of the show! There’s so much more bodacious tunes coming up! Don’t go anywhere!
[Bill & Teds 1 – Clock in San Dimas is always running][Bill & Teds 3 – Sit around listen to music]Dude. Totally. And I have got some tasty tracks to share with you from all three Bill & Ted’s films.
You have seen the new third film, right? Bill & Ted Face the Music? It’s killer, dude. So many sequels disappoint–especially when they’re made more than 20 years later–[cough] Star Wars movies [cough]–but Bill & Ted Face the Music is really, truly pretty damn cool. It’s a great end to the trilogy.
[Bill & Teds 1 – We didn’t belive it either when we us]And the music, dude?! [Scoff] It’s just asv triumphant as the first two films. Like these two, a pair of really heavy tracks from Fidlar and Lamb of God, from the new movie. This is Fidlar with “Breaker”.
—————————————-
Fidlar – Breaker
Lamb of God – The Death Of Us
—————————————-
You bet it’s cool, Ted!
So is this brand new track from 90s staple Candlebox updating their sound for 2020. This is “Let Me Down Easy.”

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Brace yourselves amigos]Also, the Cover Song of the Week is empathically NOT from ANY of the three Bill & Ted’s movies. That said, the lead guitar player on the Cover Song of the Week was HEAVILY involved in the second film, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
The Cover Song of the Week was released in 1985. It was the first solo single by one of the greatest Hard Rock and Glam frontmen of all time. That frontman was a charismatic blonde California boy who jumped around the stage in spandex while singing through an impressive five octaves.
[Bill & Teds 3 – What do we do confused that’s the point]Well, you think about the clue, and try to solve the mystery of the Cover Song of the Week–what is the song? Who covered it? Who originally recorded it?
More and easier clues later.
Let’s get back to songs from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure with music from Extreme and Tora Tora. First up, the San Dimas mall scene soundtrack.
[Bill & Teds 1 – No way yes way Ted]—————————————-
Extreme – Play With Me
Tora Tora – Dancing With A Gypsy
—————————————-
“Dancing with a Gypsy” by Tora Tora following “Play With Me” off Extreme’s self-titled debut album and the Excellent Adventure soundtrack. That song was the soundtrack for mall security to chase through the mall Joan of Arc, Genghis Kahn, Freud, and Beethoven–I’ve never been able to call him by his right name since the first Bill & Ted’s.
A song Mastodon wrote for, and was almost dropped from, the new Bill & Ted Face the Music, plus new McQueen Street and Fates Warning coming up. And if you think that’s all… Well, Rufus…?
[Bill & Teds 1 – Gentlemen we’re gonna do a lot more than that][Bill & Teds 3 – Dude dude its the future]That’s right. 29 years after the sequel Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey–
[Bill & Teds 2 – Totally killed us evil metal dickweed]–Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, and a surprising number of other actors reprise their roles in the third and final end to the story of–
[Bill & Teds 1 – Intros]–in an outstanding new film called Bill & Ted Face the Music. It’s available now in open movie theaters, and, if you’re not comfortable going to theaters right now, in video-on-demand you can watch in your own living room.
In honor of the new Bill & Ted’s, and because this is Hard, Heavy & Hair Show number 269–
[Bill & Teds 1 – 69 dudes (later)]–This show is features new music, but also TONS of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal–
[Bill & Teds 1 – Heavy metal]–and Hair Band songs from the bodacious soundtracks to the three Bill & Ted’s films.
[Bill & Teds 3 – Thought this is about music – about end of space and time]Here’s a rare hair track. It was featured in the first Bill & Ted’s movie, Excellent Adventure, but it was left off the soundtrack CD. Many, many Bill & Ted’s watchers have been searching for this song for years.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Dudes are going back in time]This is Warrant with “Game of War.”
[Bill & Teds 3 – And then what – unite the world and save reality]—————————————-
Warrant – Game of War
Faith No More – The Perfect Crime
—————————————-
“The Perfect Crime” from Faith No More off the 1991 Bogus Journey soundtrack.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Not bad]From Wales, where they once had medieval babes and iron maidens–
[Bill & Teds 1 – Iron Maiden]–this is three-piece Hard Rock outfit Florence Black with their new single “Bird on a Chain” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.
—————————————-
Florence Black – Bird On A Chain
—————————————-
Don’t go anywhere! There’s still LOADS of show coming up, dudes!
[Bill & Teds 3 – B&T Be Excellent and Party On][Bill & Teds 3 – Let Us Welcome You]Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?
[Bill & Teds 1 – Cool]Remember: the Cover Song of the Week is NOT from Bill & Ted’s.
The Cover Song of the Week original was released in 1965, exactly 20 years before the cover in ’85. It’s one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.” This song is the best known of a long string of hits for a band that defined pre-Vietnam era 1960s Rock N’ Roll. This band all but stood for the California Surf Rock sound… Until the man who was the lead singer, composer, producer, and leader began to succumb to his mental health issues and had to be replaced. With that and the world’s appetite changing to Hard Rock, Glam, and Disco in the 70s, this household name band fell into the black hole role of an Oldies act, forever thereafter relegated to playing their greatest hits at beachside venues.
Think about it.
[Bill & Teds 3 – This ends now the lies delusions]This is brand new Fates Warning, “Scars,” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.
—————————————-
Fates Warning – Scars
—————————————-
This next song almost didn’t make it into Bill & Ted Face the Music. I’ll you about that after the song. This is Mastodon, “Rufus Lives.”
[Bill & Teds 3 – Greetings my excellent friends]—————————————-
Mastodon – Rufus Lives
—————————————-
From the new 2020 trilogy ender, Bill & Ted Face the Music, that was an original new song by Mastodon. It’s a song that was almost left off the soundtrack.
Back in May, Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher appeared on the Rock N’ Roll Beer Guy Podcast. He said that Hollywood thinks, quote, “when you’re a musician, it’s like going to McDonald’s. They can just order what they want… and there it is.”
He said the producers wanted “an AC/DC-style” song, so he told them, quote, “then fucking call AC/DC.”
He was upset that the director had had the song for months, but wanted changes after the pandemic hit, and Mastodon couldn’t get together to make changes to the song. Somehow, the band and the director made it work, because you can hear the Mastodon track–about 20 seconds of it–in Bill & Ted Face the Music.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Im a professional]This next song didn’t appear in any of the three films–not exactly–though Bill & Ted quote the lyrics when asked the meaning of life at the gates of heaven.
[Bill & Teds 2 – They melvined me]This is Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.”
—————————————-
Poison – Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Vital Signs – The Boys And Girls Are Doing It
—————————————-
Pakistani Hard Rock band Vital Signs with a track from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The title is “The Boys and the Girls are Doing It.”
Yeah, they are.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Shut Up Ted x3]Still coming up is the Cover Song of the Week, Shark Island, Megadeth, and brand new Saul. Stick around
[Bill & Teds 3 – I’m essentially an infinite me][Bill & Teds 1 – How much time left – tons- extra credit]Here’s a double-shot of new tracks from Gravity Machine and this band, Sleeping Dogs, with their latest, “Broken Man’s Blues.”

Gravity Machine – Lifting Mountains
—————————————-
“Lifting Mountains” from Gravity Machine.
Remember Nelson? They were approached to contribute a song to the soundtrack to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but since they hadn’t yet reached terms with Geffen Records, they didn’t want to blow their deal, and wrote the song under the pseudonym of “Power Tool.”
Here’s Matthew and Gunnar Nelson’s band Nelson, billed as Power Tool, with a song they co-wrote with Dweezil Zappa. This is “Two Heads Are Better Than One.”
—————————————-
Power Tool – Two Heads Are Better Than One
—————————————-
New Saul and old Megadeth are next.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Where are we – they play excellent music]Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show’s tribute to Bill & Ted.
[Bill & Teds 2 – Most unprecedented expedition]In 1991, the second movie, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, took the boys to Heaven and Hell. Although only a few seconds of this next song can be heard as the boys literally go to Hell, the Megadeth bass riff is unmistakable.
—————————————-
Megadeth – Go To Hell
Saul – King Of Misery
—————————————-
Brand new Saul sneaking in there with “King of Misery.”
[Bill & Teds 3 – Apologies we’re here – wanted to help our dads]No need to apologize. Let’s do another new song. The song is “Young Wild Hearts.” The artist is the project called Dreams of Avalon by Swedish musician, producer, and songwriter Joakim Nordlund.

[Bill & Teds 1 – Strange things are afoot Circle K]
Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?
[Bill & Teds 1 – Ok wait]The Cover Song of the Week original features Mike Love on vocals, but also Bruce Johnston. It was the first Beach Boys song to feature Bruce Johnston. Oops! Did I just say the Beach Boys did the original? I guess I did. Too much to drink, I suppose. But which Beach Boys tune was it that was was covered in 1985 by one of the greatest frontmen of all of Hard Rock AND one of the greatest living Metal guitar players?
Cmon. You know this.
[Bill & Teds 1 – True wisdom exists in knowing nothing]The Cover Song of the Week is next.
[Bill & Teds 1 – Just a little farther I hope][Bill & Teds 1 – You guys stay here][COW][Bill & Teds 2 – How’s it goin’ dudes]Who was that charismatic, spandex-wearing, jumping around frontman who recorded a solo album in 1985?
[Bill & Teds 3 – I’m trying dude almost there]The answer is David Lee Roth. But whose song did he cover? Who was that icon of Surf Rock?
[Bill & Teds 1 – Danger of flunking]It’s the Beach Boys, dude. And the song, though not part of any Bill & Ted’s movie–
[Bill & Teds 3 – Wait I’m sorry what did you say]–features guitar work by Steve Vai, who went on to contribute quite a bit of the music to the second film, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
–
[Bill & Teds 2 – I love show business]
This week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week is “California Girls,” as done by Diamond David Lee Roth with Steve Vai on lead guitar. Here it is, all 2 minutes and 51 seconds of it, followed by the even shorter Beach Boys original.
